Beyond Software Updates: Diagnostic, Configuration, and Testing Services for Modern Vehicle Architectures

Movimento PUMA hardware on table with wiring

While you may know Movimento for its software reflash capabilities, we also bring automation to diagnostics, configuration, and testing. These services reduce manual intervention and help streamline your production process from start to finish.

On the production line, the benefit is straightforward: you can stop manually connecting a laptop to each vehicle each time a diagnostic, configuration, or test is needed. With Movimento’s PUMA hardware, you can automate those with a simple three-step process:

  1. Install one tool per vehicle.
  2. Let it move through the line and handle tasks automatically as conditions are met, like running a window learn when doors are installed.
  3. Remove the tool at the end of the line.

This approach can cut a 10-step manual process down to just two touchpoints, saving time, labor, and effort at scale.

And, if something does go wrong, PUMA tools flag the issue using onboard LEDs and send error reports to the cloud. Paired with a Nuvolo cloud software integration, you can also track every action in real time and maintain 100% traceability across vehicles and processes.

Diagnostic services: Fast issue identification without constant laptop switching

Movimento’s automated diagnostic services let you quickly validate, troubleshoot, or reset modules. You can use them as part of a flash campaign or on their own when needed.

With vehicles running dozens of networked modules over CAN, LIN, and Ethernet, fast and reliable diagnostics are essential.

Common diagnostic use cases include:

  • Running built-in self-tests (BIST)
  • Retrieving and logging DTCs
  • Triggering ECU-specific routines (e.g., cycling window motors to break in seals)
  • Confirming operation of optional features (e.g., retractable running boards, powered tailgates)

These routines follow the UDS protocol, but every OEM and ECU has its own specifics. Movimento creates custom scripts that support your exact requirements, so you’re not stuck using internal tools or writing one-off code for each project.

Configuration services: Automating setup to minimize manual intervention

Configuring ECUs and other modules doesn’t have to involve manual steps. Whether you’re enabling features, replacing hardware, or setting up a vehicle for a specific region, Movimento handles it through automated routines that use standard UDS communication.

Example configuration functions include:

  • Brake pedal position learns
  • Wide open throttle (WOT) learns
  • Immobilizer learns
  • Steering angle sensor (SAS) learns
  • ADAS radar and camera learns
  • Key fob programming
  • Tailgate open/close position learns
  • 360° camera calibration

These tasks are common during end-of-line processing or after a component swap. You can also run them in the field if a vehicle has incomplete software, failed calibration, or post-production hardware changes.

Testing services: Catching problems before the vehicle leaves the plant

You can use Movimento’s tools to run end-of-line tests that go beyond basic checks and catch issues that could be missed otherwise.

One example is automated audio testing. Each speaker is played through a tuned signal, and the system measures the response. This helps detect problems like signal loss, distortion, or mechanical interference. In one real-world case, the test found a bad bracket design that caused a rattle near the speaker.

Another common task is cycling the power windows to break in fresh seals, followed by a motor learn to calibrate open and closed positions and pinch protection. These test routines can be triggered automatically, without requiring any manual input from a plant technician.

Built-in traceability for audits and accountability

Every diagnostic and configuration change that runs on a vehicle is logged automatically. This gives you full visibility into what changed, when it happened, and why.

With Movimento’s PUMA hardware, you can:

  • Track when a value was written
  • Compare values before and after process changes
  • Generate reports for compliance audits or investigations

This level of traceability makes the PUMA line of hardware ideal for complex manufacturing environments that demand reliability and accountability.

All of that data is also available in Movimento’s Nuvolo cloud software, giving you 100% traceability across all PUMA devices and modules.

Operational efficiency without manual touchpoints

Movimento helps you move from manual, ad hoc workflows to structured automation that fits into your production line. You get faster deployment, fewer errors, and full visibility from the start of production to the final calibration.

By reducing touchpoints and simplifying complex processes, Movimento lets your team focus on building great vehicles, not chasing down issues with a laptop.
