Systems Can Now Receive Software Updates Over-the-Air Whenever Needed
Sunnyvale and Fresno, Calif. – December 13, 2016 – Movimento, the leader in Over-the-Air (OTA) software lifecycle and data management for the automotive and IoT sectors, and Pana-Pacific, a leading supplier of infotainment and communications systems to Commercial Vehicle (CV) manufacturers, have partnered to advance a CV communications system’s software updating capabilities. The ‘SmartDisplay’s’ software will be able to remotely update whenever needed, ensuring that critical modules for trucks and fleet management are always up to date. The companies have collaborated to add this capability to 19,000 Pana-Pacific SmartDisplay systems already installed in trucks and will continue to add this capability to 13,000 new systems annually.
The deployed SmartDisplay systems, which use the Android operating system, had limitations in how software could be updated. “Now, the SmartDisplays’ software updates can happen remotely any time it is convenient for the driver or the fleet,” explained Mahbubul Alam, CTO/CMO of Movimento. “Whether to fix software bugs, add new features, add new productivity tools or other improvements, our OTA capabilities can instantly enable multi-module updates in the SmartDisplays for both Android and Linux systems via the cloud. An important example might be the latest driver safety tool, which otherwise could take considerable time to deploy.”
The SmartDisplay is a sophisticated navigation and communications system combining networking, radio, Wi-Fi, internet, entertainment, camera inputs, Bluetooth® functionality and vehicle data in a compact unit with a touch screen monitor and hands-free capabilities. Pana-Pacific is a proficient value-added integrator of hardware and software systems used by leading commercial vehicle OEMs, dealers, and fleet companies. The SmartDisplay was developed specially for the commercial vehicle market by Pana-Pacific in response to customers’ needs.
“Adding Movimento’s OTA capabilities to our SmartDisplay demonstrates our commitment to delivering the highest-quality, most leading-edge products,” said John Trenberth, President of Pana-Pacific. “We work with virtually every major commercial vehicle manufacturer and they rely on us for equipment that provides timely delivery of information critical to the performance of the vehicle.”
